Rhonda Gardner, 44, of Lafayette faces three felony charges after prosecutors say she defrauded Social Security out of more than $7,300. Investigators say that the Department of Child Services removed Gardner's daughter from her care last April, but she continued to receive disability benefits for her daughter who is both deaf and mute.
